2015 - A year in Fashion.

Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Creative Director of Balmain Paris Olivier Rousteing

2015, another year has flown by. This year seems to have gone even faster than last, it feels like only yesterday that I was writing this exact post last year. 2015 has been an amazing year for fashion, so obviously I'm going to be listing, in my opinion, the most notable fashion moments of the year.

Balmain and H&M collaboration:
Another year another designer collaboration. This year h&m teamed up with the luxury French house Balmain. This collection delivered classic Balmain styles at are much more accessible price point. This collaboration also came with some controversy, that collaborations, such as this one were killing the fashion industry, by taking away the exclusivity and heading towards fast fashion. Where the brand doesn't create a stunning exclusive show anymore but one just for sales and stores. besides this 'controversy' I still really liked this collection.

Raf Simons Departure from Dior:
It was a sad day when I found out that Raf was leaving Dior. I truly fell in love with Raf Simmons and the house of Dior when I watched 'Dior and I', a stunning documentary following Raf's journey whilst preparing for his first haute couture show as creative director of Dior. A statement from Raf was released, explaining his reasons for stepping down; 'It is after careful and long consideration that I have decided to leave my position as creative director of Christian Dior," Simons said. "It is a decision based entirely and equally on my desire to focus on other interests in my life, including my own brand, and the passions that drive me outside of my work. Christian Dior is an extraordinary company, and it has been an immense privilege to be allowed to write a few pages of this magnificent book' (quote taken from http://www.vogue.co.uk/news/2015/10/22/raf-simons-departs-christian-dior-creative-director).

Rhianna's Met Gala Dress:

And she does it again. This is the second time in a row that Rhianna has made it onto my fashion moments of the year list. Last year with the (in my opinion) stunning dress she wore to the CDFA awards. This year she's on the list for this amazing dress she wore to the met gala. This year's theme was 'China: Through the Looking Glass', and in my opinion Rhianna really went with this theme. Her dress was Guo Pei, a Chinese couture brand.

Rick Owens S/S16 Show:

When I first saw these images of this show I was confused, as I'm sure many other people were. Why would you make models carry other models around like human backpack the title lookers were quick to brand these women as, but when I researched into why Rick Owens chose to have his models carrying each other is much more profound and makes you realise these people are not just 'human backpacks'. 'The show was an ode to “nourishment, sisterhood/motherhood and regeneration; women raising women, women becoming women and women supporting other women.” The straps were not a way of restraining women but instead supportive accoutrements used to symbolise the female bond. These relationships are not always easy of course. Binding yourself to another person can also be burdensome. That feeling only added to the power of the show' (quote taken from http://www.dazeddigital.com/fashion/article/26840/1/what-you-need-to-understand-about-rick-owens-human-backpacks).

Kendall's Takeover:
This year has definitely been another year of the Kardashian/Jenner tribe ruling the word. With major stories like Caitlyn Jenner's transition, the birth of Saint West, Kim's second child, Kourtney breaking up with long time boyfriend and father to her three kids Scott Disick, and Kylie confirming her relationship with 26 year old rapper Tyga. But the Jenner that has really made her mark on the fashion industry this year is Kendall. Kendall was on runway after runway and in vogue after vogue. Her major accomplishments this year include her becoming the face of Calvin Klein Jeans, and walking in her first Victoria Secret runway show. Jenner also walked in shows for Chanel, Givenchy, Diane Von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs and Balmain to name just a few. She also featured and ad campaigns for Balmain, and for the Balmain/H&M collection. This year has been amazing for Kendall and her career and I'm sure 2016 will be no different.

2015 has been such an amazing year in so many ways, but also some horrible things have happened, such as the terror attacks on Paris. Hopefully 2016 will bring not only more stunning collections and trends but more importantly peace and happiness to those involved in terror and conflict daily, I hope that we can solve more problems that face the world today in 2016.
Hope you all have a happy and stylish 2016.
- Emma xx.
